I have been watching Woodstock programming all weekend, so when I found this story on Women's Wear Daily, I couldn't resist another post about the event. WWD had designer's create fashion sketches inspired by Woodstock. Here are the results.
Today marks the 40th anniversary of the start of the Woodstock music festival. This 3-day festival of peace and music was one of the defining moments in American history. I really wanted to make a trip to Bethel, NY this summer to check out the area, but alas, that didn't happen. But I will be watching vh1 classics all weekend--they'll be airing films and documentaries about this historic event. Hopefully you're lucky enough to be able to do the same. The 60's counter-culture movement are a big source of inspiration for me, so I've put together an inspiration board for this weekend. I've also posted a trailer for 'Taking Woodstock,' a movie about the man who made the festival happen, which comes out August 28th.

So once again, the Tony's have come and gone. I can honestly say I was blown away by them this year. This is the first year in a long while that I've actually been able to watch them, in their entirety, and I loved what I saw, minus the sound issues that they clearly had throughout the entire night. First off, the opening number was one of the coolest I've seen in a while..and who would have ever though Brett Micheals and Poison would ever have been performing on the Tony Awards? Not I. It featured an amazing medley of current Broadway shows, and I've embedded it at the end of this post. Next, Neil Patrick Harris was one of the best hosts I've ever seen for them, other than Hugh Jackman. He "suited up" in a faboosh shiny suit, kept it short and simple with the intros and banter, made some hilarious jokes throughout the night, and then stole the entire show with his "11 o'clock Number," which I have conveniently added at the end of this post :) The performances were pretty awesome, too. It only made me want to see most of the shows more than I already did...'West Side Story,' 'Next to Normal,' '9 to 5,' and 'Rock of Ages' all left me wanting more! ['Rock of Ages' mostly because one, who doesn't love 80's music, and two, they sang 'Don't Stop Believing' and threw a Michigan shout-out in--they pointed on their HAND to show where Detroit was!!] While I was a bit annoyed that 'Billy Elliot' took home most of the awards, I was sooo insanely thrilled that 'HAIR' won Best Revival of a Musical!!! I have professed my love for this show over and over again on this blog, so I'll just leave you with a few of the performance photos, and the must see performance video [Gavin Creel singing to Anne Hathaway? Hippies overtaking the audience? *swoon*] I've posted some photos from the Tony Awards official website from the red carpet, the show, dress rehearsals, and backstage, including one of my favorites as my main photo...Angela Landsbury & Poison?! So this summer, I have lofty goals before I pack up and make my big move to NYC to start my career. I'm going to L.A. for a week, I want to go to Lollapalooza, be a tourist in my hometown, Lugnuts baseball, the list goes on and on, but the biggest one, should it actually happen, is go to Woodstock if [when?!] they hold a 40th anniversary concert. So what other way to dream about it than by making a polyvore set of what someone might wear to Woodstock '09? <3
So I know I've already posted once tonight...but I just discovered some photos from Broadway.com of Chace Crawford, aka Nate Archibald, from when he attended HAIR this past weekend. Chace Crawford & HAIR?!?!? Seriously. I'm in heaven. I can't even wrap my head around how much I LOVE this! Destiny, I tell you :) I will swoon about these as I drift off to sleep...
Spring has finally arrived in East Lansing, despite the snow that fell on Sunday. And because of that, I decided to post these shots of the Broadway Revival Cast of 'HAIR' featuring some fabulous spring fashions. These images feature the eight principles of the show, most of which who made the transfer over from the summer production in Central Park, in some really cute Spring looks, that I feel are actually really achievable on a student's budget. I mean, Kacie Sheik's amazing Rebecca Taylor booties are a little bit out of my price range, but I've seen similar styles at DSW and Urban Outfitters. I also love Sasha Allen's Marc by Marc Jacobs dress, the colors and prints are adorable. The boys don't look too bad either, combining military and hippie chic's for a really laid-back, yet really cool vibe. And how adorable is Gavin Creel? This University of Michigan Alumnus has loads of talent and yes, million dollar charm...even if he is a Wolverine. :)
Also, 'HAIR' has its official opening tonight on Broadway, so I'm sending good thoughts, and hoping they break many, many legs tonight!!! LOVE.
