award show season has begun!

The Primetime Emmy's were held last night at the Nokia Theatre in LA, and the hottest television stars came out to celebrate the achievements of their peers. I love award show season, and the red carpet is one of the things that makes me love it. I love watching for the fashion hit and misses, although, this year, I didn't see too many get-ups I didn't like. One of my favorite dresses of the Emmy's this year was Mariska Hargitay's [left.] She is an absolutely gorgeous person to begin with, but everything about her look worked last night. The dress was the perfect cut, length, and color--love the sunny yellow. Her hair, make-up, and subtle accessories added the finishing touches on a winning look. Bright colors seemed to be making a statement all over the runway, from Brooke Shields fuchsia dress, to Melora Hardins bright red dress, to Cynthia Nixon's blue sheath. Black, white, and metallics also made a statement on the red carpet. Kate Walsh, Olivia Wilde, and Eva Longoria all had on dresses that incorporated at least one of those three. Asymmetrical necklines are popping up everywhere, too. Christina Applegate, Vanessa Williams, and Heidi Klum all tested out the new neckline for fall.  As far as the men go, they all looked quite dapper in their tuxedos. John Krasinksi, Mark Wahlberg, Neil Patrick Harris & his boyfriend, and Jeremy Piven were some of the best looking in their red carpet gear. Tim Gunn also looked quite nice in his Ted Baker London tuxedo, even though it took him a moment to remember who he was wearing :) While the ceremony itself was nothing too exciting, the stars looked so great, it made up for it. Also, the dresses for the trophy girls designed by Lauren Conrad and Christian Siriano...nothing too spectacular. I was expecting a lot more from them--at least from Christian. The dresses by Lauren looked exactly like the one she wore herself, just with shoulder strap, and Christians were far less exciting than the looks we're used to seeing from him. Now...how long 'til the Oscars??
