fashion olympics

william rast

I am in love with all the military chic on the runways this year, and the William Rast collection was chock full of it! The post-Vietnam hippie meets biker chic vibe of the collection is one of my favorites this season. The collection also reminds me of Lindsey Weir on 'Freaks and Geeks,' if she were modernized and living in a big city today. My only flaw with this company? It's based in L.A. and I would prefer to live in N.Y. and work for them. So, maybe an east coast move is in order boys? :)

temperley london

This season's collection from Temperley London continues in a similar vein from where the Pre-Fall collection left off. The circus master of Pre-Fall has packed up and entered the business world for Fall. The use of stripes mixed with textured embellishments and stark black/white contrasts make an overall sophisticated and fun collection.

rodarte

The Mulleavy sisters collection this season for their label Rodarte is absolutely outstanding! I am in love with their artful draping and romantic/gothic stylings--especially the final wedding dress looks! This collection has serious gold medal potential!

Marchesa

Marchesa has done it again. Their fall collection has some of most unique, and beautiful evening wear I have ever seen. I am all about the layering of fabrics and tulles, the uses of lace in unexpected ways, and the classic silhouettes given a fresh twist!

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Another collection up for gold medal is Marc by Marc Jacobs. I love how much Marc toned down the looks from previous seasons to present a collection that was classic american sportswear, with his signature twist. I am obsessed with the olive green nylon-esque jumpsuit and his use of plaid! A truly swoonworthy collection, indeed.

anna sui

Anna Sui is another one of my favorite designers, who also happens to be from Michigan! This collection is classic Anna Sui, from the casual silhouettes to the artfully mixed prints and everything in between. The color palette is perfect for fall, and the garments could easily carry you from late summer all the way through to spring. This is another collection I want to live in, and a designer I'd love to work for. :)

For The Row's first runway collection, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen had quite a strong showing. They kept things in a basic color palette [black/white/blue] and kept the pieces simple, yet interesting. I loved the slouchy pants, and floor sweeping hemlines. Each piece has a laid back vibe, yet chic enough to wear to work. I also loved that the models all wore gladiator sandals as opposed to ridiculous heels that probably would have detracted from the collection.

vera wang

Vera Wang's collection has everything a chic city girl could want: Lots of stand out yet blend in pieces in blacks, whites, grays, and shades of navy. As someone who has a lot of blacks and grays in my own wardrobe, I really appreciate what she was going for with this collection. I also can't get enough of the artful draping, layered sheers, and sleek fabrics. I also love the jewelry in this collection, Vera Wang always knows just what to pair with her garments to create that perfectly styled look.

alexa chung for madewell

Alexa Chung has been a tv personality in England for some time, and had recently broken into the American tv market with 'It's On with Alexa Chung.' But her most recent endeavors are worthy of battling for a gold medal in this seasons fashion olympics. She has collaborated with the brand Madewell, and I am absolutely obsessed with the entire collection. Each piece has that breezy, effortless indie style that Alexa Chung is known for. I would buy a few of these looks in a heartbeat if I could, but for now, I will just drool.

tracy reese

The latest collection in the running for gold is Tracy Reese. As a long time fan of this Michigan native, I look forward to her collection season after season. She always knows how to keep a woman looking chic and modern, but always with a youthful twist. I absolutely love the dark blacks mixed with the icy blues, greys, and tan tones. betsey johnson

Betsey Johnson always knows how to have a good time on the runway, and this season is no exception. Her twist on the wild west is one of the most fun collections I've seen this season. I love her use of calico floral prints and paired with lace and a classic Betsey Johnson color scheme, she has hit the mark with this collection. The body conscious cuts draw attention to a tiny waist, and the full skirts help create a silhouette a saloon girl would envy. And the McQueen tribute was both appropriate and touching. Maybe Betsey will be walking home with the gold this season...there's still too much Fashion Week left to know just yet!

diane von furstenberg

Another contender for gold medal at this seasons Fashion Olympics is Diane von Furstenberg. This collection is so much fun and so incredibly wonderful, I am kind of at a loss for words. The pieces are young and fresh, yet chic and appropriate for a variety of ages. The fabrics and prints are unique and would mix well with a variety of wardrobes. This is another collection I want to live in. Diane von Furstenberg continues to prove why she has lasted so long in this industry, and continues to be one of the most beloved designers of all time.

erin fetherston

This may be my favorite collection of Fashion Week, but only time will tell that. Erin Fetherston's Fall 2010 collection is simply stunning. Inspired by Nico and all things '70s, she managed to evoke the bohemian spirit and whimsy of the era while keeping her client looking sophisticated, elegant, and modern. I want to live in this collection--it has pieces that will seamlessly take you from work to play and back again. This is definite gold medal material. :)

rag & bone

As you know if you read this blog on a regular basis, Rag & Bone is one of my all time favorite design companies, and their collection for Fall 2010 Fashion Week is another winner. David Neville and Marcus Wainwright have hit the target for fall fashion yet again. I love the layering, the plaids, the knits, the scarves, all of it! The color scheme is perfection, the fabrics are luxurious, yet tough, and the tailoring and fit is spot on. See more of the potential medal winning collection after the jump!

alice + olivia

Here is another collection in the running for gold medal in my fashion olympics :) I have been a fan of Alice + Olivia for quite some time, and this collection is so FUN! Stacey Bendet's collection is so fun and fresh! I love the whimsy and the sass that these looks convey. This collection makes me want to work for this company even more than I already do!

The first collection in the running for my personal poll of favorite collection of Fall 2010 Fashion Week is Peter Som. His inspiration came from the film Taking Woodstock, which is a personal favorite of mine, and his breezy 70s silhouettes with an expert mix of patterns is spot on perfection. fall 2010 fashion week so far

Phew, I am tired! I need to remind myself to not go out of town during Fashion Week again--at least not without my computer! I have poured over the shows and so far I am quite impressed. I will be doing special posts through out the day with my gold medal-collection contenders, but here's a best of the rest post!
